We found Mia, a large, friendly Rottweiler mix, chained on a patch of dirt in the burning rural North Carolina sun. Her only protection from the extreme weather was a dilapidated plastic box that could barely accommodate her frame, let alone protect her from the hot sun.
The joy on Mia's face was impossible to miss after our staff paid her some badly needed attention and gave her a sturdy new PETA doghouse that protects her from intense summer storms and, thanks to its overhang, provides her with shade during the worst heat of the day.
The record-breaking heat has been deadly for dogs like Mia—and thousands of dogs like her are outside right now suffering without shelter or shade. Will you be an "angel" for neglected dogs like Mia by sponsoring a PETA doghouse right now?
PETA's "Angels for Animals" program is life-changing for forgotten, neglected animals. Thanks to compassionate, generous people like you, it provides the resources that we need to deliver well-constructed, long-lasting doghouses to animals like Mia, who have little to nothing to protect them from nature's worst weather. We always want dogs to be allowed to live indoors with loving families—but when families can't be convinced and local sheriffs and animal control officers will not enforce the meager provisions of the law, our fieldworkers do everything they can to change dogs' lives for the better.
In recent years, we've helped thousands upon thousands of "backyard dogs" find some measure of protection from extreme weather. The well-built doghouses that we deliver to these animals in need are designed to last, providing both cooling shade during long hot summer days and shelter from the chill of bitter winter winds.
Your "Angels for Animals" sponsorship gift means far more to these dogs than shelter alone. It allows us to provide them with a collar that fits rather than biting into their neck as well as a lightweight, tangle-free tie-out to replace their heavy chain, which burns them in the summer and is freezing-cold in the winter. It helps us treat them for fleas, ticks, flystrike, and ear mites—conditions that "backyard dogs" suffer from during warm weather. Your gift today will also give PETA fieldworkers the resources that they need to make follow-up visits to doghouse recipients and give them some of the attention—and affection—that every dog craves.
The cost of building and delivering a doghouse, making visits, and supplying medical care to an "outside dog" is $265. You can give directly online right now or become an "Angels for Animals" doghouse sponsor today through easy monthly installments. Just choose the amount that you want to give as well as the number of months, and we'll bill your credit card each month. Your scheduled payments will continue automatically until your "Angels for Animals" sponsorship is completed, and you can cancel at any time.
Your donation today—whatever the amount—is sure to make a tremendous difference in the life of a neglected dog.
Mia now has a roof to shade her and caring PETA staff to give her affection during their visits. But every day this summer, PETA fieldworkers will encounter dogs just like her, chained or penned in backyards with no relief whatsoever from the scorching-hot sun. The generosity of "Angels for Animals" donors is what makes a better life possible for these sweet, neglected dogs.
Won't you help by becoming a sponsor today?
Very truly yours,
Ingrid E. Newkirk
