Even though the market for whale meat is diminishing, Iceland still plans to slaughter hundreds of endangered whales in the next five years.
Iceland, Don't Kill Even More Whales
please shareit helps!
Fin whales are already highly endangered. But in December, the government of Iceland quietly gave a whaling company permission to murder even more of them, essentially signing the death warrant for more than 700 fin whales.
To make matters worse, the market for whale meat has been steadily shrinking. Though it was once a popular cuisine in Iceland, fewer citizens eat it every year. The company has been forced to expand its sales internationally, such as to Japanese dog food companies.
Yes, you read that right: These beautiful, sensitive animals are being slaughtered by the hundreds -- for pet food.
Whale hunting has no place in 2014. Tell the Icelandic government to withdraw its quota immediately.
